Items that Sell Great on Craigslist

Selling on Craigslist can be profitable or it can just be a waste of time. Here are several items that sell great on Craigslist and the pros and cons of each of them.

Lawn Mowers

Lawn mowers sell great on Craigslist, even broken ones can sell for at least $ 25. Men that know how to fix lawn mowers buy them and fix them to sell them for a profit on Craigslist. Pros- They always sell, even broken and they sell quickly. You can usually find them for free on the side of the road so they are all profit. Cons- Hard to price especially if you aren’t sure what is wrong with them and they can be hard to get to home if you don’t have a truck.

Bicycles

Bicycles are fast easy sells just like lawn mowers, clean them up take a picture and you’re ready to sell on Craigslist. Pros- easy fast sells, will even sell if they have a defect like a tire that needs replaced. Cons- With bicycles you will sometimes have too many phone calls and have to weed out who will actually show up. Always keep a backup list of people who call even after someone says they are on their way. Also never promise to hold an item, especially a bike. People will not always show up and then you are turning away other potential customers.

Tools

Pros of selling tools on Craigslist are that guys are always looking for deals on tools. Cons- if you don’t know much about the tool then it can be harder to answer the many questions men will ask. Another con of selling tools on Craigslist is that you often have to sell them cheap.

Sports equipment

Sports items sell great on Craigslist. Golf clubs and Fishing poles are surefire sells. Pros- they sell quickly and are easy to clean. Cons- harder to get and its not often that you’ll find a good expensive set for free to resell, normally you will get cheap older items that you will sell for between $ 15 and $ 25

Furniture

Pros- Furniture is usually a higher priced item giving you better profit. Cons- Furniture takes up more room and is harder to store. A tip with furniture is to be patient and just keep re-listing. It just takes the right person that is looking for your item and that has the money.

Tile and Building Materials

All building materials sell well on Craigslist Items that are especially easy to get and sell are tile and bathroom vanity tops. Pros- easy to find and people always want to buy tile and building materials on Craigslist in order to save money during remodeling. Cons- Tile and building materials can sometimes be hard to clean and list in a way that people are clear on what you are selling. Another con is that these items are often heavy and people will need help loading it up.

The items listed above are big sellers on Craigslist; if you use this list your Craigslist selling will be more profitable. Although each item has its own cons the profits outweigh the negatives. Have fun selling on Craigslist!

Surprising Uses of Everyday Foods

Food is necessary to fuel our bodies, but sometimes we buy too much of it at the grocery store. When your produce starts to go bad, or when you’ve kept those spices around for just a bit too long, or when you thought you’d make a recipe out of all of those ingredients but just didn’t get around to it, there are many other ways you can still use your food instead of throwing it away. Surprisingly, it doesn’t involve eating it either.

Fruits

Before throwing away old banana peels, use them to shine up metals and leathers that you have. Rub the peel against the surface and then polish it with an old cloth. Banana meat is also good for reducing wrinkles. Dab a bit on those trouble spots, let it sit for a while, and then wash it off, and your wrinkles will disappear. Lemons are great to lighten skin and hair. If you have troublesome acne scars, dab a bit of fresh lemon juice on them and leave it overnight. You’ll notice a difference in the morning. Apple slices will help ripen tomatoes quickly when the two fruits are placed together in a paper bag, and orange peels are great fire starters for your next backyard fire pit party.

Vegetables

A slice of cold potato over your eyes can reduce puffiness and redness on your eyelids. Sit with the potato over your eyes as you would with slices of cucumber in a spa. Garlic removes splinters with ease. If you rub garlic over a splinter, it will come right out.

Oils and Condiments

Mustard can make you feel a lot better if you are suffering from a cold. If you use it like a vapor rub and apply it to your chest under a wet towel, you’ll feel better in no time at all. Butter can help you untangle all of those knotted necklaces that are in the back of your jewelry drawer. Just slather some on, watch the necklaces slip apart, and rinse them off. That high-calorie mayonnaise in your fridge that you are trying not to eat because it will ruin your diet is great for getting crayon off of the walls. The next time your kids draw all over, don’t worry. Slather some mayo on there and wipe it all away. Olive oil is a great product for your skin, as well as to quieten creaky hinges. If your dog or cat brings home fleas, using salt is a great way to get rid of them around the house. Just pour salt into the vacuum cleaner and around the baseboards. Let it sit, then vacuum the salt up. The salt dehydrates the fleas and kills them. Be sure to throw away the vacuum bag or empty the vacuum bin immediately, or some of the fleas can crawl back out.

Beverages

Everyone knows the trick of using club soda to get dark stains out of the carpet. But did you know it also works to get pet urine out of the carpet too! Beer is a great hair lightener. If you are out of lemons, try soaking your hair in beer before going outside. Just don’t forget to wash it out afterwards. That old 2-liter bottle of pop will work wonders if you need to clear out a clogged drain. Just pour it down the drain and watch the fizzes do their job of breaking up the gunk. Milk is great for stain removal, especially if your stain is some type of ink. Just soak some into the stain and watch it loosen up.

As you can see, there are so many other uses everyday foods have around the house. So next time, before tossing any food away thinking it is of no use, stop for a moment and think about all their uses mentioned here.

Ron Paul to Stop Campaigning in States Yet to Vote

Ron Paul’s bid for the GOP presidential nomination has entered a new, scaled back phase that may signal the practical end of his campaign. In a letter to his supporters, Paul explained the position of his campaign moving forward: “Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future. Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted. Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have.”

The letter is entirely consistent with Paul’s larger message of fiscal responsibility. Rather than continuing to spend the campaign funds provided by his supporters on contests that he doesn’t deem winnable, Paul is choosing to focus on continuing his campaign without the massive overhead of direct campaign spending. The chances of Paul actually winning the GOP nomination are as remote now as they were a few months ago.

The reality is that the GOP nomination is going to Mitt Romney and the Vice Presidential running mate that he selects. Paul’s role at this point will be to force an acknowledgement of his message by the GOP establishment, and perhaps from the Romney campaign as it tries to mount a challenge to President Barack Obama’s bid for re-election.

Ironically, it will probably not be until after the upcoming election that people start to understand exactly what Ron Paul was trying to tell them for the better part of the last year. By then it won’t really matter, of course, but Paul’s message may be even more important in 2013 than it is in 2012.

Buzzle: Breaking News & Reports

Emptiness Leaves a Heart Aching Healing

I pause to watch sea gulls dipping into the brine;
mindful they’re in for their sundown’s mealtime.
The sun’s unveiling an artful scene like a painting;
oranges, whites, and yellows mien the sky.
Waves roll like they’re late for the opening of night;
lapping sand like it’s sucking in a twilight meal.

Footprints in the sand vanish like wiping a slate clean,
leaving dirty foam edges along the oceans shoreline.
A mist brings about a bushy head and lifeless curls…
opens the rawness within a heart and soul,
harboring a love lost by turbulence of winds and storms;
a desire to hold on and not to lose this fervent passion.

Darkness overtakes the moment until the moon lightens,
leaves an image of the sea retreating before my eyes.
It’s like love walking right out of my life never to return,
gloom drops by to clinch my aches and pains living within.
Why must love feel good but loss hurts bad,
causing a turmoil to chap a person’s entire soul?

Yes, why must love feel good when loss hurts bad?

Simple Ideas for Mom on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and many of us have started thinking about what to get them. Here are some ideas you may find helpful in your search for that something extra special:

· Write out several of your best family memories on slips of textured paper and slip them into a decorated jar (embellished with ribbons, buttons, braids, etc.).

· Give her the gift of scent. Research has shown that the sense of smell is one of the most powerful for evoking memories. So if your mom’s favorite scent is something in the outdoors, give her a jar or sachet of potpourri with a “woodsy” scent (or something similar) and write a little note about something you remember as a family that coincides with that scent. Example: “I remember our camping trip….”

· Invite her to dinner – either at your house or at a nice restaurant. Or, make her favorite casserole, cake or cookies and give them to her on her special day.

· Make a coupon booklet for her with different things you will do for her throughout the year. Examples: cook dinner, take her out to dinner, do her yard work, clean her house, etc.

· Give her a hug card or hug coupons, and each time she feels like she needs a hug, she can “redeem” the coupons or card from you.

· Hide notes around the house, with each note having one reason you love Mom. She will find the notes on Mother’s Day, and throughout the rest of the week.

· Try a “Box O’ Mother’s Day Surprises” – get a shoebox and wrap it with pretty paper, and buy several trinkets to go inside, wrapping each of those individually. Some ideas for the individual gifts include a sachet of potpourri, scented soap, fridge magnet, a poem on a sheet of folded stationery or a cute figurine. Mom can reach into the box and unwrap a gift throughout the day on Mother’s Day.

· Write out a “recipe” on fancy paper that lists all the ingredients that go into your love for your mom. Let your mom know exactly how much you love her.

· Start a special Mother’s Day annual tradition by signing up for a marathon on Mother’s Day, or volunteering at a local soup kitchen or other community service.

· Take a family photo each year and create a Mother’s Day scrapbook, in which children write their thoughts and feelings or notes to mom, grandma under each picture.

Hopefully, these ideas will help you find the perfect, unique gift for Mother’s Day. Or, maybe try to use this list to come up with your own special ideas. Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive – just as long as you make sure to make it special for you and your mom.

A Movie-Goer’s Guide to Film Credits: What Those Titles Really Mean

Film credits. The movie ends and a long list of names and titles scroll down the screen. I sit and read them all and leave the theater without the faintest idea of what those people do.

After years of movie watching, my curiosity finally got the best of me. Thanks to filmsite.org, pbs.org, and imdb.com, I can share with you this guide to some of the most common and least understood titles found in movie credits:

First-Assistant Director – The First AD is the director’s right-hand person, and takes responsibility for the practical aspects of the film so the director can concentrate on the creative process. Firsts are charged with making sure every aspect of the shoot keeps to the schedule.

Second-Assistant Director – The Second AD is the First AD’s main assistant and works to ensure that all his or her orders and directions are carried out. Second ADs have two main responsibilities: preparing and drawing up the call sheet, and overseeing all the movements of the cast, including making sure principal actors are where they should be.

Second-Second Assistant Director – An assistant to the Second AD, this position is responsible for directing the movement of the extras.

Producer – Producers are moviedom’s top dogs. They originate and develop the material, hire the director and necessary creative personnel, raise the money to make the film, supervise all stages of production and marketing, and negotiate deals with perspective distributors. It’s good to be a producer.

Executive Producer – Despite this important-sounding title, the Executive Producer does not rank higher than the Producer. Once primarily responsible for the business aspects of film making, Executive Producers in today’s motion picture industry can be the person who brought a property – a novel or play – to the attention of the studio; a key actor in the movie who persuaded the studio to do the film; or the author of a book being made into a movie. In these cases, the title is mostly honorary.

Gaffer – This position is the chief lighting technician, responsible for the design and execution of the production’s set lighting as determined by the film’s Director. The lighting crew reports to him.

Best Boy – The Best Boy is the lead electrician on the set and is usually the Gaffer’s main assistant. Best Boys coordinate the day-to-day activities of the team of lighting technicians, and deal with all the logistics and paperwork relating to the role. They ensure the proper equipment is ordered and schedule the proper quantities for each day’s work.

Grip – Trained lighting and rigging technicians, Grips are primarily responsible for the transportation, maintenance and mounting of cameras. On the sound stage, they are responsible for moving and adjusting major set pieces when something needs to be adjusted to get a camera into position.

Key Grip – The lead Grip on the set, the Key Grip works directly with the Gaffer and best boy to determine how to get the best shot. The Key Grip oversees camera cranes, dollies on other platforms or supporting structures.

Rigger – Riggers do the heavy lifting, working on the ropes, booms, lifts and hoists for the production. Wire Riggers work with the special effects crews to “fly” the actors.

Art Director – The Art Director is responsible for creating and maintaining the visual elements associated with a film’s production, including the design, construction, and coloration of the sets and props, giving the film its visual identity.

Set Designer – Often an architect, the Set Designer creates the structures or interior spaces called for in the film. In addition, he oversees the building of sets, furniture and properties.

Set Decorator – Working closely with the Art Director, the Set Decorator makes the decisions about which furnishings and other decorations will be used on the set, including such items as paintings, fabrics, and other non-movable decorative set pieces.

Set Dresser – Set Dressers arrange the objects on a film set before shooting begins. Working with the set decorator, they place furniture, hang pictures and put out decorative items. During the shoot they work with the prop department to make sure props and furniture are in their proper places.

Stand-In – A Stand-In is a person who has the same physical stature as a particular actor and “stands in” or takes their place during the lengthy set up of a scene.

Body Double – Typically used for shots requiring nudity or depictions of physical fitness, Body Doubles “replace” an actor who prefers not to do a nude scene or whose body may not be suitable for a particular shot.

Now when I go to the movies, I feel empowered and informed. On a recent trip to the multiplex, the woman next to me wondered out loud what a Gaffer does. I just hope I kept the smugness out of my voice when I told her exactly what one does on the movie set.

Meet Mr. Black (Journalist & Author)

Today, I caught up with Jvictor Black, the author of The Sorcerer’s Mask, and had the wonderful opportunity to talk with him more about his book and journey to becoming an author. He is a fresh face on the literary scene, but no stranger to journalism. I hope you find his interview enlightening.

First, I’d like to know where are you from James?

Born in Alexandria, Louisiana. I’m a military brat so I have lived in a number of places. But I call Concord, N.C., home.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing in college at Barber-Scotia College. My major was Mass Communications/Journalism

What inspired you to write your first book?

It actually was born out of a short story that I wrote for one of my college classes. One of my instructors asked the class to develop a modern twist on a story we were reading about, of all things, birth control. After reading my story, he said I should think about developing it. It sort of remained on my back burner of things to do for years until I left the journalism field. Finally, I got the time to sit down and work on it and the rest is history.

Do you have a specific writing style that helped you develop your story?

I’m not sure that I can say I have a definite style. I do try to make things visual and very descriptive and that helps me bring the story to life.

How did you come up with the title?

My intention for my characters in the book was for them to be misleading or more than they appeared to be on the surface. While describing what I wanted to a friend, the term two faced came up and I played off that with really nothing sounding particularly right. Then, I thought of my characters as having masks and Sorcerer’s Mask just jumped out from that.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes. Men can be victims of heart break as easily as women. I think everyone has a first heartbreak in life whether or not it was your first love or last love.

Is this message based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

As a journalist, you learn to watch and listen to people very carefully. The events in people’s lives make them and all of us really react in different ways. I find this amazing. No two people react the same way in similar situations. However, the categories or ways in which to react are limited. Fight or flight. Sad or Angry, happy? It’s always remarkable.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

That’s tough. I don’t really think I have a favorite writer. I enjoy James Patterson and John Sanford because of the action attached to their characters. Teri Woods and Toni Morrison write so well from the heart. I think I try to cross the two genres or mix things up and have characters who are real world or relatable to people.

What current projects are you working on?

Right now getting The Sorcerer’s Mask into as many hands as possible. Developing exposure. It is really true that marketing a book is harder than writing a book.

As far as support, who do you feel has supported you the moist, aside from family members?

A dear friend, Susan Hamm. She kept asking me “Where’s this book you keep talking about?” and “When are you going to publish It?” and “You really need to do something!” She just really motivated me to see my dream through.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Well, It’s my first book so there is doubt. More so on whether or not people will understand what I’m trying to convey. If people see the picture I’m trying to paint with words. Hopefully, the change will come in the form of better writing, growing as a writer and improving, which is every writer’s challenge.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned, I don’t know, as much as I thought I did. Writing for a newspaper is far different than writing fiction. Organization and attention to detail are very important. Readers can pick up on the smallest mistake, which is good. It helps to keep writers on their toes, so to speak.

Well, I am sure that our readers enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about you and your work. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

First, reading is really fundamental. Get involved in your children’s any child’s reading efforts. Reading is the door of opportunity and if we don’t pass this one and most important fact along to our children then they are doomed to failure. Secondly, I hope everyone enjoys “The Sorcerer’s Mask” and please feel free to comment on the book in all the social media sites. By all means, please tell your friends and family to read the book.

Where can your books be found?

Currently it is online at Amazon Books.

Make More Cash with a Themed Yard Sale

One of the first things I learned about business was the value of a niche market. When my family moved into a new house this past March, we decided to combine that nugget of wisdom with our need to get rid of a few things. We held a themed yard sale.

It was an experiment, the hypothesis being we would make more cash if we limited the yard sale to a specific type of merchandise.

The Experiment

For our first sale, we decided to sell books. My wife and I have been using our Kindles more frequently, and as much as we love our hardcover and paperback books, they collect more dust than anything else. We wanted to cull our collection by at least 40 percent, and a themed yard sale seemed the perfect opportunity.

We set it up just like we would any other yard sale. We put up signs in our new neighborhood, but we specified that it was a book-themed yard sale. That Saturday, we set up a large portion of our library on the driveway using a bunch of old particle board shelves.

Throughout the day, we sold over 300 books at about $ 0.40 each. We offered a 10 percent discount to anyone who wished to buy 20 books or more, and we saw a total of 73 people.

We considered our first themed yard sale a complete success, so we repeated the experiment three more weekends for furniture, clothes, and odds and ends. The last weekend resembled a traditional yard sale, with no rhyme or reason to the items we put out.

The Results

It is difficult to judge the success of our themed yard sale experiment based on numbers alone, considering the books were far less expensive than the items in the other categories. In terms of visitors to our yard sale, however, the numbers shook out much as we expected:

  • Books: 73 shoppers ($ 110 profit)
  • Furniture: 129 shoppers ($ 500 profit)
  • Clothes: 88 shoppers ($ 96 profit)
  • Odds and Ends: 52 shoppers ($ 73 profit)

The numbers seem to indicate that a themed yard sale will draw more interest from the public, and thus generate more cash. People know exactly what they are going to find at the sale, and if they have an interest in that type of merchandise, they will show up to take a look. Because the odds and ends sale was less specific, fewer people showed an interest.

And although our experiment was far from scientific, we actually made more money at the themed yard sales than we did from odds and ends. One could conclude that we had already sold all the decent items at the previous sales, and I’d imagine that’s a factor. But I still think we made more cash with the separate themes than we would have if we’d lumped everything together.

Student Study Tips

With many students facing their final examinations around this time, some are becoming nervous or have not developed comfortable study habits. I’m going to share a few tips and ideas that have helped me in the past few years.

  1. Eliminate Distractions
  • If studying in the comfort of your own home, maybe it’s time to try getting out of that “comfort zone”. If you’re a temporary resident, pack up things such as video games, or anything that may distract you from your studies.

2. Visit the Local/Campus Library

  • There’s no better place to focus your energy on a book than a reader’s utopia. Libraries typically offer other resources, as well. You can find related readings, study rooms, computer access, and other helpful services.

3. Get Hands-On

  • If your subject of study requires physical demand from yourself, practice! For example, a student studying a television camera’s operations may want to practice with the camera.

4. Study With a Friend/Classmate

  • Sometimes, all it takes is the help of a friend. Try studying with a classmate who excels on the topic, for the best feedback. Have them quiz you, as well.

5. Condense Lecture Notes/Handouts

  • Let’s face it – we’re given way more information than we need. Only keep key words, terms, definitions, and whatever else is important. Having lots of extra text can distract you from the key points. This is my alternative method to highlighting.

Keep in mind, it’s important not to overload on studies. Breaks are very necessary! Feel free to leave other tips in a comment below.
